CNTD has worked extensively with DRC to plan and undertake a programme of MDA to eradicate Lymphatic Filariasis.
We were involved in the initial mapping of LF prevalence in DRC. After this, we supported the training of 160,878 community drug distributors and the MDAs themselves; treating 22,952,337 people over 2 rounds in 11 provinces and 4 rounds of Albendazole in Kongo Central. We have assisted DRC in their assessment of MDA effectiveness through MDA coverage surveys and the monitoring of remaining prevalence using sentinel site surveys.
Work on the Morbidity Management and Disability Prevention element has been less extensive but a morbidity burden assessment has been integrated into DRCs MDA programme. Also, work has begun on building capacity in DRCs Lymphoedema management services.
