Dr Jesús Reiné

Post Doctoral Researcher and Flow Cytometry Manager

Jesús obtained the BSc in Biology from the Universidad de Granada (Granada, Spain) in 2002.  During his studies he received from 1999 to 2002 the undergraduate university scholarships from the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science (MEC, Spain). Then he worked as a research collaborator from 2002 to 2004 in the Department of Cell Biology, Faculty of Sciences in the Universidad de Granada. Since 2002 to 2003 he obtained the Postgraduate Teacher Certification (CAP) in the Universidad de Granada, and since 2002 to 2004 he obtained the Master of Advanced Studies (MSc) with the highest qualification.

In 2004/05 he obtained the prestigious Predoctoral research fellowship CAM (Comunidad Autónoma de Madrid, Madrid, Spain) and he started the PhD related to CD3 gamma primary immunodeficiency using transformed T cells in the Department of Microbiology I (Immunology Area), Faculty of Medicine in the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Madrid, Spain). In 2006 he also collaborated in a clinical trial with the pharmaceutical Bristol Myers Squibb industry in the same department. After he obtained the PhD at 2011, then he was working from 2010 to 2014 in the industry related to the development of flow cytometry panels and single antibodies. In 2014 he came back to the academia again and he started a Postdoctoral position in VITal (Vaccine Immunology Translational Research Team - Department of Clinical Sciences) in the prestigious LSTM under the direction of Dr. Daniela Ferreira. At the same time he is the manager of the flow cytometry service of the LSTM.

We are using the EHPC model to test novel vaccines for protection of healthy volunteers against acquisition of pneumococcus. We are using naturally acquired immunity from healthy adults exposed to pneumococcus to define the best peptide or protein antigens for a new vaccine to confer serotype-independent protection against pneumonia with different immunological approaches including flow cytometry. He is also collaborating in the P4 peptide project, to investigate the effects on ex vivo phagocytic activity in blood from critically ill patients with sepsis.

He obtained the Postgraduate Teacher Certification (CAP) in 2003. He participated as a teaching assistant in a number of undergraduate classes during his PhD. At LSTM he is providing training in flow cytometry to the new researchers.
